Letter from the Principal

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the St. Ambrose Catholic School (SAS) website. I hope that your “virtual visit” provides you with information and insight into our mission and philosophy, as well as our programs.

St. Ambrose Catholic School has been fostering the spiritual, academic, physical, and emotional growth of children for over fifty years. Each unique child of God is nurtured in a safe, loving, caring environment.

SAS is a fully accredited Catholic school in the Galveston-Houston Archdiocese servicing children in Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade.  The remarkable, talented staff of St. Ambrose Catholic School challenges and encourages a diversified body of learners. Faculty and staff continually strive for the advancement, safety, and well-being of each and every child. They choose to be teachers in a Catholic school because they consider their profession to be a mission and not just a job.

There is a strenuous academic program in place at St. Ambrose Catholic School.  All classes partake in Spanish, Computer, and Guidance classes in addition to solid core subjects. Fine Arts classes offered on the various grade levels include Music and Art.  SAS also participates in enrichment programs such as Duke University Talent Identification Program, John Hopkins Talent Search, the DeBusk Enrichment Center for Academically Talented Scholars (DECATS), speech tournaments, Prep Bowl competitions, and the National Junior Beta Club. Students who graduate from St. Ambrose Catholic School continue on to the high school of their choice including Duchesne Academy, Incarnate Word Academy, St. Agnes Academy, St. Pius X High School, St. Thomas High School, Strake Jesuit Preparatory School, and many others.

St. Ambrose Catholic School has a vigorous physical education and athletic program available to the students. All grade levels participate in Physical Education classes three times a week. Extra-curricular offerings include a Fitness Club, football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, cheerleading and dance. SAS is proud to be a member of the Greater Houston Catholic Athletic Association.

An extremely strong Catholic Identity is present at St. Ambrose Catholic School. All classes celebrate Mass together as a school family every Wednesday morning and every day begins with a school-wide prayer led by the students. Religion is taught daily and the students themselves serve as choir, lectors, gift-bearers, and altar servers in the weekly Mass. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is offered to the student body during both Advent and Lent. The school supports the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry through weekly donations and special Thanksgiving offerings. During the Christmas season St. Ambrose School helps to brighten the lives of a number of families through donations of clothing, food, toys, toiletries, and various sundry items.

Thank you for your interest in St. Ambrose Catholic School. I hope this brief overview has provided you with information and aroused your interest.
